Paul Rudd Plots A Road Trip In First Trailer Of The Fundamentals Of Caring


Paul Rudd and Craig Roberts get to grips with The Fundamentals of Caring in the first trailer for Netflix’s upcoming feel-good drama. Due to makes its bow on the streaming service on June 24, Rob Burnett’s dramedy garnered a healthy amount of buzz during its premiere at Sundance and is the latest indie drama to be scooped up by Netflix – and it’s little wonder why.


Placing Roberts in the role of a crippled 18-year-old, The Fundamentals of Caring tees up a heartfelt dynamic between Trevor and Ben, Paul Rudd’s retired writer seeking a cathartic release from relationship woes and a recent divorce. And so, in an attempt to thrust Trevor out of his mind-numbing comfort zone, the pair plot a road trip to visit a handful of weird and wonderful landmarks across the country, including the World’s Deepest Pit.


Here’s the official synopsis:

The film follows the story of Ben, a retired writer who becomes a caregiver after suffering a personal tragedy. After 6 weeks of training, Ben meets his first client, Trevor, a foul-mouthed 18-year-old with muscular dystrophy. One paralyzed emotionally, one paralyzed physically, Ben and Trevor take an impromptu road trip to all the places Trevor has become obsessed with while watching the local news, including their holy grail: the World’s Deepest Pit. Along the way, they pick up a smart-mouthed runaway and a mother-to-be who help test the pair’s survival skills outside of their calculated existence as they come to understand the importance of hope and true friendship.


Also starring Selena Gomez, Jennifer Ehle, Megan Ferguson and Frederick Weller.
