Making A Murderer Gets Season 2

Six months ago, the contentious case of convicted murderer Steven Avery was given the global spotlight thanks to Netflix’s hit documentary series, Making a Murderer. It took the Internet by storm, too, fanning interest in a potential sequel to piggyback off the show’s runaway success. Fast forward to today and Netflix has finally commissioned a second season of Making a Murderer, one that will offer intimate access to the post-conviction process.

Flanked by a new lawyer in Kathleen Zellner there’s no mention of an episode count or exact premiere date for the second season, though we expect those pertinent details to emerge in the coming weeks. Returning at the helm are co-directors Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos, who offered up the following statement. “We are extremely grateful for the tremendous response to, and support of, the series. The viewers’ interest and attention has ensured that the story is not over, and we are fully committed to continuing to document events as they unfold.”

Netflix VP of Original Documentary Programming Lisa Nishimura, said “Because of Ricciardi’s and Demos’ incredible vision, commitment and keen eye, audiences around the globe became completely captivated by the personal stories of Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey and the unique lens their experiences provide into the criminal justice system. We’re thrilled to be continuing our longstanding relationship with the filmmakers, and look forward to giving our global viewers eagerly anticipated updates on this story.”

No word yet on when Making a Murderer will return for its sophomore season, but we’ll keep you posted as this story develops.
