Shane Long Extends Southampton Deal

Republic of Ireland international Shane Long has signed a new four-year contract which will keep him at Southampton until 2020. The 29years old forward joined from Hull ahead of the 2014-15 season, and scored eight goals that season, before bagging 13 last term as Southampton finished sixth in the Premier League.

The former Reading and West Brom man is also a regular starter for the Republic of Ireland and recently helped his nation reach the round-of-16 at the European Championships. Having returned to training on Wednesday, Long has now committed his future to the Saints.

He said “I'm delighted. I'm excited to be part of what could be a big future in the next four years for this club. I love it here, the set-up, the training ground, the lads as well, everyone around the club. It's a real family feel, and I feel like I'm a big part of that and I feel like I'm playing my best football here as well. I've enjoyed every minute down here. I'm happy, my family are happy, and it's a good place to be.
