Updates from German Open

Fourth seed Alexander Zverev has crashed out of the German Open after a straight sets defeat to Inigo Cervantes. The German reached the third round at Wimbledon, but endured an early exit at the clay event in Hamburg after a 7-5 7-6 defeat to Cervantes.

In a break-filled match, Zverev let a 4-2 lead slip away while dropping the first set to the Spaniard, ranked at world No 82. He was then dragged into a second set tie-breaker and had no answer to a string of accurate ground strokes as Cervantes wrapped up victory in an hour and 40 minutes.

Top seed Philipp Kohlschreiber was given a scare before he battled back to complete a 6-3 6-7 6-3 win over Argentina's Carlos Berlocq. Second seed Benoit Paire also fell in the first round after he was beaten 7-5 3-6 6-4 by Daniel Gimeno-Traver.
