Women's Super League: New Update

Arsenal secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Notts County and Chelsea were denied top spot after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Birmingham City on Sunday. On Saturday, Sunderland beat Doncaster 4-0 and Liverpool won against Reading 2-0.

Jordan Nobbs put in a stunning solo performance scoring one and setting up another as Arsenal defeated a spirited Notts County side at Meadow Park. Danielle van de Donk struck early in the first half when she outpaced Fern Whelan after a sublime ball from Nobbs played her through one on one with Notts County goalkeeper Megan Walsh. Provider Nobbs then capped off an exceptional team move early in the second half when she curled the ball home after a perfectly weighted pass from Dominique Janssen.

Chelsea stayed in second place in the FA Women's Super League 1 after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Birmingham City. Birmingham's Freda Ayisi had put the visitors in front just after half-time before substitute Eni Aluko made an immediate impact to equalise against her former club. Neither side were able to find the winner and Chelsea, who are now one point behind leaders Manchester City, finished the contest with ten players as captain Katie Chapman was sent off with three minutes remaining.

Beth Mead scored two of Sunderland's four goals as her team eased past Doncaster Rovers Belles, in a dominant display. Hayley Sharp scored Sunderland's second goal in the 39th minute and Brooke Chaplen added a fourth in the 77th. The result left Doncaster Belles sitting at the bottom of the table with just five points. While Sunderland climb one place up to seventh above Reading, who earlier lost 2-0 at Liverpool.
