For A Second Time Hamburg Fires Bruno Labbadia

 

Hamburg have appointed Markus Gisdol after coach Bruno Labbadia was sacked for a second time following a poor start to the season. Labbadia was relieved of his duties by telephone on Sunday after picking up just one point from five Bundesliga matches.

Former Hoffenheim coach Gisdol was later confirmed as the Bundesliga strugglers new coach on a contract until the end of the season.  Labbadia, who was also dismissed by Hamburg in 2010 - just three days before a Europa League semi-final with Fulham, was fired despite his team's tenacious performance in Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich.

The 50years old, who joined Hamburg 18 months ago and saved the club from relegation in 2015, used the club's Facebook page to say farewell. He wrote “It was a crazy, intense time with many experiences that I will always remember. It means a lot to me to have been Hamburg's coach and it's a pity that we were not able to get the necessary results. I hope that the team keep up the brave performance from the game against Bayern to get back on the path to success. I would like to wish my successor all the best for the task.”
