Super Eagles
players and their officials will not be paid win bonuses if they defeat
Tanzania on Saturday in their Africa Cup of Nations dead rubber
qualifier in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State because the Nigeria Football Federation is
broke.
Nigeria
Football Federation President Amaju
Pinnick said that the NFF will not be able to pay the bonuses of the Super
Eagles because the money is not there but pointed out that the players would
get their money as soon as the NFF get the money from government.
He said “We have to appeal to the players to be
patient with us as we cannot be able to pay them now, but we shall pay when we
get the money. It is a very tight situation but we are trying to find
means of cushioning the effects of this on the players and officials. I mean we
could have been in deep trouble if the Akwa Ibom State government did not
accept to host the Super Eagles game with Taifa Stars of Tanzania. They have
been able to remove the huge hotel bills which usually run into about N50
million. We are grateful to them for bailing us out of this because we don't
have such money.”
Both Nigeria
and Tanzania have been eliminated from the 2017 AFCON as Egypt have claimed the
only ticket open to their qualifying group.
