President Buhari Salutes Eagles

Nigeria President, Mohammadu Buhari, has congratulated the Super Eagles on their 2-1 away win against Zambia in Sunday's FIFA World Cup qualifier in Ndola. A goal each from Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho in the first half gave the Eagles their first ever win on Zambian soil.

In a press statement signed by the President's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, Buhari urged the Super Eagles not to get carried away with the win against Zambia.

President Buhari said “This is but the first step in a long journey, however, that step has been well taken.  An away victory at this level, in which stakes are quite high, is remarkable. The ultimate is to qualify for Russia 2018, and fly Nigeria's flag alongside those of other giant soccer playing nations. I look forward to that, and I urge the team and their handlers to keep keep their eyes on the ball.”
