Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers State, has
rewarded players and officials of Rivers
United with a sum of N500,000 each for emerging second in the concluded
NPFL season. At a grand reception ceremony at Government House, Port Harcourt,
Wike also said the team's head coach, Stanley
Eguma, will take home N1m while other management staff of the club will
receive N500,000.
He also
donated a luxury bus to the supporters club of Rivers United to ease their
transport problems. It was also reported that the governor gave the club a
blank cheque for their 2017 CAF Champions League. To ensure that the team win
the continental trophy next year, Governor Wike approved an European pre
season camping for Rivers United, mentioning specifically Real Madrid of Spain as their camping site.
He said “I'm a Real Madrid fan, I don't hide it. They
are a club that always win trophies every season. It is either they win the La
Liga, Cope Del Rey or the UEFA Champions League. So I've told you to prepare in
the best way to ensure you won the CAF Champions League next year.”
