Michael
Pena
has come attached to Horse Soldiers, the Nicolai Fuslig-directed film. He would
join Chris Hemsworth and Michael Shannon for the Afghan war
drama, one which chronicles the true-life tale of an untrained captain who
directs a team of US Special Forces into a rugged, mountainous area of the
Middle East in the weeks after 9/11. Pena has clinched
the part of Diller, a member of Mitch’s squad that was “assigned to join forces with a Northern
Alliance warlord to fight against overwhelming odds to drive out the Taliban.”
Showcasing tremendous bravery during his time on the front lines, his character
winds up spearheading an attempt to severe one of the Taliban’s primary supply
lines.
Doug Stanton’s novel will serve as inspiration for Horse Soldiers,
and we understand Peter Craig and Ted Tally are the scribes tasked with
adapting the nail-biting true story for the big screen. Meanwhile, Black Label
is the studio lending much of the financial support, enlisting the help of
producer Jerry Bruckheimer and
his banner.
There’s currently no mention of when we can expect Horse Soldiers
to trot into production, but we’ll be keeping tabs on this one as it develops.
