Its Official: Camila Cabello Leaves Fifth Harmony

The pop girl group took to Instagram late Sunday evening to announce that Camila Cabello has left the chart-topping group. Within minutes, fans flocked to the comments section noticeably distraught about Camila's surprise exit. But as longtime Fifth Harmony listeners know, it's been quite a turbulent year for the singers.

In a May 2016 interview with Billboard, the 19-year-old pop star explained that she's certainly faced her fair share of fame-related struggles. She said “I was having terrible anxiety, nonstop, I was scared of what would happen to me, of the things my brain might tell me. I realized the stuff I thought was important isn't worth my health. Now I write in a diary every day, work out and meditate.”

An official statement reads “After 4 and a half years of being together, we have been informed via her representatives that Camila has decided to leave Fifth Harmony, we wish her well. You Harmonizers have been there with us since the beginning, you've supported us, and with your love and support, we will continue on. That being said, we are excited to announce that we will be moving forward with the four of us- Ally Brooke, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane and Lauren Jauregui for our fans. We are four strong, committed women who will continue with Fifth Harmony as well as our solo endeavors. We are excited for our future, and we can't wait for what the new year brings. Harmonizers, we are in this together. We love you with all of our heart

Discord between the young ladies seemingly came to a head earlier this year when Lauren asked to switch spots with Dinah Jane during a red carpet event, an incident that pushed her to speak out on the matter after facing criticism from internet trolls. Likewise, Normani and Camila also had to clear the air on an alleged feud going on between them after Kordei seemed to shade her fellow group member in a Facebook Live chat. Only days later, Kordei deleted her Twitter account amid racist cyberbullying and just last week, Jauregui issued an apology for missing their Brazil tour pitstop. Jauregui's absence came shortly after she was stopped by TSA at Washington Dulles International Airport after a staffer discovered marijuana in her carry-on luggage.

Fifth Harmony formed during the second season of The X Factor. Since then, the group has commanded the charts with singles like Work From Home and Bo$$, having won three MTV Video Music Awards and one American Music Award.
