Nigerian
boxer Olufemi Oyeleye has won his
first professional bout in the United States of America. The 2015 Africa Games
welterweight gold medalist on Friday defeated Brain True of California, USA by a unanimous points decision.
Oyeleye, who
fought on the bill of Mayweather Promotions, gave a good account of himself
against True who previously had only one win in five fights as a pro. The
Nigerian who didn’t make it to the Olympic Games in Rio after being droppec by
Nigerian boxing authorities for alleged disciplinary problems appears to have
settled down after moving to the US in May and now seems to be on to
something good after teaming up with Charles
Nwokolo in Los Angeles.
Nwokolo,
known in American rings as Young Dick Tiger in his
heyday, has pledged to get Oyeleye to the top in no time if he can keep his
head down. Oyeleye may be fighting in three months time having signed
a four fights a year deal with Mayweather Promotions.
