Yesterday news broke that Audu Maikori, Chocolate City Entertainment boss, was arrested by the Police and flown to Abuja. The police picked up Mr Maikori on Friday afternoon claim for alleged attempt to 'incite' the public and was immediately transferred to the force headquarters in Abuja.
The police claim the arrest was because Mr Maikori sent out some series of tweet about four weeks age claiming that some southern Kaduna residents were killed by Fulani herdsmen. The claim, which Mr Maikori got from his driver, turned out to be false. See the tweet below:
Though Mr Maikori later retracted the claim and apologized publicly for the false information, the police seem not to be buying it.My driver'syounger brother &5 others students of college of education gidanWaya were ambushed & killed by herdsmen yesterday #SouthernKaduna— AuduMaikori (@Audu) January 23, 2017
Nigerians including celebrities have therefore, since yesterday, began a social media campaign to gear the police to free Mr Audu Maikori with the hashtag #FreeAudu trending on Twitter since yesterday. See some tweets below:
