Former football coach Barry Bennell has been charged with a
further 21 counts of child sex offences, the Crown Prosecution Service has
confirmed. The charges against Bennell, a former Crewe Alexandra youth coach,
relate to alleged offences against four boys which took place between 1983 and
1991.
A CPS spokesperson said: “former professional football coach Barry
Bennell, 63, was informed that he has been charged with 21 counts of non-recent
sexual assault on boys aged between 14 and 16 years of age. These are 18 counts
of indecent assault, two counts of buggery and one count of attempted buggery.”
Bennell has now been charged with 41 alleged
offences relating to eight male complainants which took place between 1980 and
1991. Bennell will appear via video link at South Cheshire Magistrates' Court
on May 17 to answer these latest charges.
He will appear at Chester Crown Court on 3 July in relation
to 20 counts of non-recent sexual assault he was already facing. He has denied those charges.
