Le Syli Cadets of Guinea on Sunday beat Niger
3-1 to clinch the third-place play off at the Total U-17 Africa Cup of
Nations Gabon 2017. A brace by star striker, Djibril Fandje Toure in either half as
well as another goal by Eldadj
Abdourahamane Bah was enough to clinch the title for them.
The play-off between the two
semi-final losers, however, started on a conscious note after Niger took
the kick off and both sides only laboured to dominate possession throughout
the first stanza with no goal on either side.
Immediately after the restart,
goalkeeper Khaled Ibrahim
came to the rescue of Niger when he parried away striker Djibril Fandje Toure's flash shot but
he was not lucky in the 56th minute, when danger man Toure finally got the
opener and his fifth goal of the championship when he sliced ball behind
Ibrahim after he breached the defence of the Menas.
Some ten minutes later, Niger's counter
attacking tactics paid off as they caught the Guineans napping and Ibrahim
Boubacar Marou drove the ball into the net for an equaliser. Guinea
went into the lead again through Bah in the 75th minute and few minutes later,
Toure got his sixth goal of the championship; and was deservedly voted as the
Total Man of the Match Award.
