Wema Bank slammed with N97m lawsuit by US-based model

A US-based Nigerian model, Nneoma Anosike, has accused Wema Bank of using her picture for commercial purposes without her consent and thus, sued for N97m.

The 22-year-old filed the lawsuit through her lawyer father, Frank Anosike, at a Federal High Court in Lagos.
Frank Anosike said Wema Bank used Nneoma’s photo for a commercial on Instagram on April 11, 2016, without her consent or her management’s.
According to her, she was close to signing a contract renewal with Ford Models Inc. when she was shown the bank’s advert with her face on it, jeopardising the deal as a result.
She is now seeking an order directing the bank to pay N75m for the act.
An additional suit of N20m was filed against the bank for breach of her privacy by advertising her private correspondence.
She is also seeking N2m as cost of filing the suit against them.
The model also wants the bank to issue an apology in two national dailies in Nigeria and in the U.S.
The plaintiff is also seeking an injunction restraining the defendant from using her photo or making other people use it.
Nneoma Anosike was a winner in the 2013 Elite Mode Look competition in Nigeria.
