SSANU threatens strike over unpaid allowances

Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has threatened to embark on strike over Federal Government refusal to implement an agreement it reached with the workers on “earned” allowances 2009.
President of SSANU Comrade Samson Ugwoke stated this over the weekend duringSSANU’s National Women’s Committee Conference held at the University of Abuja.
He said “I am sorry to say that the peace we have been enjoying in the University for the past one year or more may not be guaranteed in 2013. Why I am saying this is that we have made efforts to ensure that the earned allowances which we entered into agreement with the Federal Government in 2009, as I am talking to you is not in the 2013 Budget.
“We are all members of the National Implementation Committee of the 2009 Agreement with the Federal Government and all efforts we made to ensure that, it is included into Federal Government budget failed. As I am speaking to you, no amount was allocated for payment of earned allowances in 2013 Budget and this is an invitation to war.
“I want you to go and get prepared because we must force the government to ensure that they pay that money,” he said.
