President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice
President Yemi Osinbajo have both declared their assets in line with the
provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This
information was contained in a statement issued by the president’s Head of Media
Team, Garba Shehu on Saturday. According to the statement, the forms were
submitted separately on May 28.
The statement reads, “President
Buhari’s Declarant ID was given as: ‘President: 000001/2015′.
“The Nigerian Constitution states in
Chapter VI Section 140, that a person elected to the office of President shall
not begin to perform the functions of that office until he has declared his
assets and liabilities as prescribed in the Constitution.”
By declaring their assets, both
President Muhammadu Buhari and his deputy have not only fulfilled the
constitutional requirement but have also met one of their many promises to
Nigerians. It will be recalled that the President during his campaign
pledged to make his assets public once he is voted into power.
