Iheanacho Shines As Sterling Score On Debut

Nigerian youngster Kelechi Iheanacho gave an impressive 73 minutes performance as Man City finally overcame Roma on penalties.

Iheanacho provided an early assist for Manchester City’s £49m striker Raheem Sterling before he added his name to the score sheet in the second half as they kick off their International Champions Cup game against Roma in Melbourne on a high note.

The young talented Nigeria who had a frustrating U20 world cup some months back once again showed the Man City hierarchy what he can do when fully fit when he laid a well-placed pass in front of the Englishman Sterling who made no mistake in finishing past Roma goalkeeper Morgan de Sanctis in the third minute. That scoreline changed very fast as Roma pulled back five minute later through Miralem Pjanic who was the benefactor of a Gervinho pass. Iheanacho came close to make it 2-1 only for his header to be saved by Roma keeper who ensured the match remained 1-1 at half time.

Iheanacho continued from were he left off in the second half as he continue to create chances for his team. He finally got his goal in the 51th minute after Roma defender Ashley Cole overhit a pass which fell into his path and he wasted no time before hitting into the top of the net.

Iheanacho was substituted in the 73rd minute and Coach Manuel Pelegrini says he believes Iheanacho has a bright future with the club.
