Change that Changes

By: Adekunle Adewale O.
Finally, I put in for admission back into the polytechnic, I spent my first two years in to obtain my National Diploma, everyone at home was happy.
At last he's going back to school after 3years break. Three good years staying at home doing different jobs with the hope that I'll finally get to  find fulfillment. But no, I couldn't because It was from fry pan to fire, from one problem to another if not money missing, its goods missing and if not that I got into a heated argument about the bargains of goods by a customer. This made me quit several jobs because I wasn't able to balance the accounts properly, account for goods and also have a good relationship with people. Damn! what could be wrong with me? I needed a CHANGE because things should not continue like this ..So what's CHANGE? According to the Merriam Webster, it means to be different, to become something else and according to the Thesaurus dictionary it means something made different, alteration. But according to me, it means a deviation from what is expected. So let's talk CHANGE!   Thank God I was given admission to pursue my final lap of my education in the polytechnic, same school I did my National Diploma (N.D) but it was after three years of my last visit to the institution everything is not the same any longer. Now, i have to come into the school with an identity card, my dressing would be accessed to know if I'm what the identify card says I am, more structures, different people plying trade in the school, different lecturers and of course different courses I have to offer, different from the ones I had during my first two years...Everything Has CHANGE...  Eventually, after admission process, medicals and the rest. Lectures was set to begin, to my biggest surprise I went to my department and Oh, good Lord, here I sight another name, it now bears Agricultural Extension, with the thought that my eyes were deceiving me, I entered into the office and I discovered truly my eyes weren't deceiving me, I later got to know that the department has been moved to a new building..Here also I sighted CHANGE...  Finally, I got to the department after much stress, went to the door knocked and was asked to come in with the hope that I would see my dear mother, the secretary I mean, who has always been caring us, to my dismay I didn't sight her, I asked about her from the new secretary I sighted and the reply I got was that, "madam don retire". Chai deris God oooooooo... I then proceeded  to the HOD's office to request for the time table for the semester, which I noticed was missing from the notice board.. to my biggest surprise I discovered another CHANGE. The HOD which I was expecting to be there wasnt, I discovered my darling Pastor who happens to be the HOD I was expected to be there has finished his tenure...Chai I shook my head everything don CHANGE. I later talked to the new HOD, requested for the time table and he assured me it would be on the notice board first thing the next morning, Thanked him and left...  On my way back home, I then spoke to myself, everything around me is CHANGING...Its time for you to CHANGE. So where am I going to start from? well I then looked up and sighted a writing on the wall...saying "Change is a process not an event" I then said let me begin with the process then! So how did I begin?  First I began to read books about self discovery, you know readers are leaders, books like "don't waste your life by John Piper, As a man thinketh by James Allen, Awaken the giant within by Anthony Robbins and a host of others, I also attended school seminars and revivals a we all know the that prayer works...talked to men of God, seeked advice from elderly ones, I mean anyone who is witty...a ten year old once called me and told me ‘brother, you don't laugh in church, hope all is well?, he then told me a story his teacher told him in class about an old woman who lived more than an 100years and the woman says the secret to her long life is God and laughter.. so I held on to that and whenever you catch me around, omo I de smile, who wan die young?  After that I began to put into actions what have read, like having positive minded people around me, reading the Holy Book, being prayerful, being hardworking and other great virtues such as writing, which I'm currently doing...  From that point onwards I began to have a good human interaction, great communication skills, brilliant accountability and mostly a gift I would forever cherish and that is my writing skills...All thanks to God for that! SO ARE YOU WILLING TO CHANGE??
