David Beckham has paid
tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo – and admitted he
would love to see him back at Manchester United. Ronaldo struck his 500th
career goal during Real Madrid's midweek win over Malmo and Beckham says the
Portuguese forward is an example to follow for every young footballer.
“Ronaldo getting to a milestone like that so quickly is
unbelievable,” said the former Real and United star in an exclusive
interview with talkSPORT. “Congratulations to
Ronaldo because what he has done is incredible and I‘m
sure Real Madrid as a club are proud of that. “Like
[Lionel] Messi, these players just don’t get good from
nothing. They work hard. That is what I have always told my kids and other kids
that I have been around – these players are so good because they work so hard.”
Ronaldo, who left United for Real Madrid in 2009, has been frequently linked
with a return to Old Trafford.
For Beckham, it would be
great to see the 30-year-old back in a Red Devils jersey, but he accepts that
is unlikely given his status at the Bernabeu.
"I'd like to see him
come back, as a Man United fan. That would be great because he was so great at
Man United," he said. "But he is at Real Madrid now, he is very comfortable
in his life there, the fans obviously love him there, and he looks a real Real
Madrid player now."
David Beckham is returning to
Old Trafford on November 14 to play in a charity game in aid of UNICEF. The
former Manchester United star will captain a Great Britain and
Ireland XI, which will be
managed by Sir Alex Ferguson. Tickets are now available on the Manchester
United website and are priced from £20 for adults and £10 for children.
