Lopetegui's stellar
performances at Logroñés earned him his sole cap with Spain, coming on as a
substitute for Andoni Zubizarreta for the final 30 minutes of a 0–2
friendly loss with Croatia in Valencia, on 23 March 1994. He was subsequently picked for the squad at
that year's FIFA World Cup. As Zubizarreta left for Valencia CF, Lopetegui was
signed by the Catalans, battling – and losing –
for first-choice status with longtime understudy Carles Busquets. After Barça
bought F.C. Porto's Vítor Baía he was further demoted to third-string, and

in all positions throughout his career except central defender and goalkeeper.
Starting in 1991 and ending
in 2004 he represented both Real Madrid and Barcelona, with equal individual
and team success, appearing in more than 500 official games and scoring more
than 100 goals. He appeared with the Spanish national team in three World Cups
and one European Championship, and was also noted for his temperament and
stamina.
Luis Enrique was born in
Gijón, Asturias, and began his career with local Sporting de Gijón, where he
gained the nickname Lucho after Luis Flores, a Mexican forward in the team. He
then spent most of his playing days with the two biggest Spanish clubs: first
Real Madrid for five seasons and, in 1996, after seeing out his contract, he
moved to fierce rivals FC Barcelona on a free transfer. The Catalan club's
supporters were at first hesitant about their new acquisition, but he soon won
the culers' hearts, staying eight years with the club, eventually becoming team
captain and scoring several times in El Clásico against his former employers,
whilst with Real Madrid, he notably scored in a 5–0
home win against Barcelona, but stated later he "rarely felt appreciated
by the Real Madrid supporters and didn't have good memories there".
In his first three seasons
with Barcelona Luis Enrique netted 46 La Liga goals, with Barça finishing
runner-up in 1996–97 and subsequently winning back-to-back domestic championship
accolades. Furthermore, he was named Spanish Player of the Year by El País in the
following campaign. He also scored the opening goal in the 1997 UEFA Super Cup,
a 3–1 aggregate triumph against Borussia Dortmund.
During his final years in
Barcelona Luis Enrique was often injured, and did not want to renew his
contract. He had been offered a contract by his first club Sporting, which he,
however, declined, stating that "he wouldn't be able to reach the level he
demanded of myself" and that "he wouldn't be doing Sporting much of a
favor by going there, before retiring at the age of 34 on the 10th August 2004.
30. Daniel García Lara - Through Real Mallorca
Daniel 'Dani' García Lara
born on the 22 December 1974 is a Spanish retired footballer who played as a
striker.
During his professional
career he played for both Real Madrid and Barcelona, he amassed La Liga totals
of 208 games and 40 goals over the course of 12 seasons; he also played for
Zaragoza, Espanyol and Mallorca.
Born in Cerdanyola del
Vallès, Barcelona, Catalonia, Dani was a graduate of Real Madrid's youth
system. He received his first-team debut on 5 February 1994, in a 2–0
home win over Deportivo de La Coruña; he played another match in the 1994–95
campaign, while still registered with the B-side. Dani then spent two years on
loan at Real Zaragoza, featuring prominently but without scoring success after
which he returned to the Santiago Bernabéu. After a season with only eight
appearances he was sold to fellow La Liga club RCD Mallorca, being the Balearic
Islands team's top scorer in 1998–99 as it achieved a
first-ever qualification to the UEFA Champions League; he also helped the team
reach the 1999 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final, where he scored to tie the game at
1–1, in an eventual 1–2 loss to S.S. Lazio.
Subsequently, Dani signed for
FC Barcelona in the his first year he managed to net 11 La Liga goals
(third-best in the squad) without being an undisputed starter, but subsequent
loss of form and injuries limited him to nine league games between 2001 to 2003
on 18 April 2000 he scored a crucial goal at the Camp Nou, to help the club to
the Champions League semifinals: trailing 3–4 on aggregate to
Chelsea, he found the net with seven minutes left to send the tie to extra
time, where his team scored a further two to progress.

UEFA Champions League trophy in the 1997/98
season and a La Liga when he first joined in the 1994/95 season, also he won Supercopa de España twice in
1993 and 1997. He didn't win anything with Barcelona but he was a runner-up in
the Supercopa de Espana in 1999.
31. Alfonso Pérez - Through Real Betis
Alfonso Pérez Muñoz was born
26 September 1972, known simply as Alfonso, is a Spanish retired footballer who
played as a striker.
Having represented both Real
Madrid and Barcelona during his career, Alfonso possessed above-average heading
ability despite not reaching 180 cms. He appeared in 307 La Liga games for
three teams (also had two spells with Real Betis), scoring 84 goals.
Alfonso was born in Getafe,
in the outskirts of Madrid. In 1990, aged just 18, he made his professional
debuts with Real Madrid and, although he never carved a regular place in the
starting XI (playing mostly as understudy to club great Emilio Butragueño and
then Iván Zamorano), helped the capital side to the 1995 national championship.
In that summer, Alfonso
signed with Real Betis: in his second season at the Manuel Ruiz de Lopera, he
scored 25 La Liga goals which was the most goals ever scored by a player in a
season in the club's history. Teaming up with Pier, the pair combined for 60
first division goals from 1995 to 1997, and helped the Andalusia club finish
fourth in the latter.
FC Barcelona signed Alfonso
for the 2000–01 campaign, and the player had a difficult time adjusting
at Camp Nou, netting only twice in his first year and serving an unsuccessful
loan spell at French League's Olympique de Marseille in January 2002 –
alongside Real Madrid midfielder Alberto Rivera –
where he once again failed to shine.
Barça then loaned Alfonso to
former club Betis, which signed him permanently at the end of the season. After
another two seasons where he struggled with injuries and loss of form (ten
scoreless games in 2004–05), he retired from football when his contract
expired in June 2005, having scored more than 100 official goals during his
career; he subsequently returned to Real Madrid, joining its veterans' team.
He won the La Liga once, 1994/95 season, the Copa del Rey once, in 1992/93 season, and the Supercopa de España twice, in 1990
and 1993. He was unable to win anything with Barcelona.
32. Samuel Eto'o - Through Real Mallorca
The only African to have
played for both sides, the greatest African striker of all time, he's infact
the only African player to have won the UEFA Champions League with two
different clubs and scoring in the finals.
Having trained at the Kadji
Sports Academyin Cameroon, Samuel Eto'o joined Real Madrid's youth academy in
1997, but he could only train with Real Madrid B, as he was still a minor. Real
Madrid B were relegated to the third tier, Segunda División B, where non- EUplayers
are not allowed, and as a result, he was loaned to second division CD Leganésfor the 1997–98
season. After making 30 appearances for the club and only scoring four goals,
he returned to Madrid following the end of the 1998–99
season. In January 1999, he was loaned out to RCD Espanyol, but failed to make
any appearances for the club. He was later sold to Mallorca after his contract
expired.
Eto'o departed Mallorca as
the club's all-time leading domestic league scorer (54 goals) when he signed
for FC Barcelonain the summer of 2004
for a transfer fee of €24 million, after lengthy, three-way negotiations with
Mallorca and Madrid. Initially, Real Madrid President Florentino Pérez wanted
to buy back the full transfer rights and loan him out again, but eventually the
Barcelona deal proved lucrative enough to warrant a sale. Additionally, the
team already had its full quota of three non-EU players.
Eto'o made his Barcelona
debut in the season opener at Racing de
Santanderon 29 August 2004. After Barcelona won the 2004–05
La Liga title, the team organized a festive party in the Camp Nou, during which
Eto'o harangued the fans chanting, "Madrid, cabrón, saluda al
campeón" (English: Madrid, bastards, salute the champions). The Royal Spanish
Football Federation fined Eto'o €12,000 for his
comments, for which he later apologized. He expressed regret and asked for
forgiveness from Real Madrid, his first professional team. The head of the Real
Madrid fan club federation remained unimpressed, however, stating, "This
character is a fantastic player, but he leaves a lot to be desired as a
person." He signed an improved contract with Barcelona in June 2005.
After missing out on the
previous year's Pichichi trophy, which is given to the topscorer in La Liga,
Eto'o edged out Valencia CF striker David Villa for the award during the final
matchday on 20 May 2006 when he scored his 26th goal of the season against
Athletic Bilbao. Eto'o was very gracious to teammates after the game saying,
"It has been a team effort although only one person gets the award. We've
worked hard all season and have got our just rewards."
Eto'o also contributed six
goals during Barcelona's run to the 2005–06 Champions League
title. In the final, Arsenalgoal keeper Jens Lehmannwas sent off early on for
bringing down Eto'o just outside of the penalty area, but the Catalans
struggled to capitalize on their one-man advantage until Eto'o scored the
game-tying goal in the second half. Barcelona went on to win the match 2–1,
and Eto'o was awarded with the UEFA Best Forward of the Year award for his
accomplishments in the European campaign.
Eto'o also won an historic
third consecutive African Player of the Year award that season. He said in his
acceptance speech, "Above all, I dedicate this to all the children of Africa."
He was also selected to his second straight FIFPro World XIand finished third
in the running for the FIFA World Player of the Year, making him only the
second African footballer ever, after the Liberian star George Weah, to be
voted into the top three.
In the 2009 UEFA Champions
League Final, Eto'o refused to come on as a substitute in a league match
against Racing de Santanderon 11 February 2007. Barcelona manager Frank Rijkaardsaid after the match, "He did
not want to come on; I don't know why."
Ronaldinho was critical of Eto'o's actions, saying that Eto'o was not
putting the team first, but Eto'o rebutted the comment, claiming that he did
not come on because he did not have enough time to warm up properly. Three
months later, Eto'o said, "These kind of things are usually just
speculation and don't come through to me. However, if it is true that I am a
problem for my team then I will go. But like I said, I am happy here. The press
can write what they want." Following the comments, Barcelona President
Joan Laporta was quick to quash rumours of transfers involving Eto'o and
Ronaldinho.
After aggravating a meniscus
injury on 28 August during a summer friendly against Inter Milan, Eto'o was
sidelined indefinitely. On 17 October, in the midst of his recovery period, he
gained Spanish citizenship. He was cleared to play again on 4 December, and
returned to the side a week later in Barcelona's 2–1
league win over Deportivo de La Coruña.
Eto'o recorded his first
league hat-trick in a match against UD Levanteon 24 February 2008. He finished
with a total of 16 league goals in 18 appearances for the season. On 25
October, he recorded the fastest hat-trick in club history after netting three
times in 23 minutes in a victory over UD Almería. Only two games later, on 8
November 2008, Eto'o scored four goals in the first half of Barcelona's game
against Real Valladolid, which ended 6–0.
On 29 November 2008, he
scored his 111th career Barcelona goal in all competitions in a 3–0
road win over Sevilla FC, moving him into the club's top ten all-time
goalscorers.
On 14 February 2009, he
scored his 99th and his 100th league goals for Barcelona in a 2–2
draw with Real Betis. Eto'o scored his 30th goal of the 2008–09
season in a La Liga match against Real Valladolid. The game ended 1–0
and meant that Barcelona kept a six-point lead over Real Madrid in the league.
He also scored against Villarreal CFin the game that put Barcelona one point
away from lifting the 2008–09 La Liga trophy. He
scored 30 goals in the season, finishing second in the Pichichi Trophy
goalscorers list behind Atlético de Madrid's Diego Forlán.
Eto'o scored the opening goal
in the 2009 UEFA Champions League Finalagainst Manchester United. Barcelona
went on to win the final 2–0, thus completing
the Treble. The formidable trio of Lionel Messi(38 goals), Eto'o (36 goals) and
Thierry Henry(26 goals) scored exactly 100 goals between them in the club's
historic treble year.
He made only three
appearances for Real From 1997 to 2000 mainly because he
was often sent on loan and he made over 140appearance for Barcelona in the
League scoring 108 times
After Maxwell completed the
transfer from Inter Milan, Joan Laporta
confirmed that there was an agreement in principle between Barcelona and Inter
Milan for Zlatan Ibrahimović to join the
club in exchange for Eto'o and €46 million.
After Ibrahimović agreed
terms with Barcelona, the club announced Eto'o would travel to Milan for his
medical to complete the transfer. On 27 July 2009, Eto'o passed his medical and
signed for five years with Inter. On his first press-conference in Milan, he
declared that he was where he wanted to be and refused to compare himself to
Ibrahimović saying, "I'm Samuel Eto'o and I don't want to compare myself
to anyone. I believe the victories I have earned up to now can contribute to
giving the right value to my name."
Here are the players that
have played for Barcelona, but first played with Real Madrid, the most
successful of them all is Samuel Eto'o.
Stay tuned, we bring to you
top XI that have played for both teams, and guess who's will make the team and
facts and stats about the El-Clasico.
