Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger
is against the FIFA Ballon d'Or award and the selfishness that individual
accolades encourage.
Wenger's thoughts come just
days after Cristiano Ronaldo insisted that he was better than Lionel Messi as
he hopes for a third successive Ballon d'Or in January.
Ronaldo even admitted he
questioned why he should bother attending the ceremony when he watched his
Barcelona rival pick up the award from 2010 to 2012.
Ronaldo will once again go up
against his great rival Messi for the top individual prize in football

But Wenger has urged players
to not focus too much on individual awards as he steered clear of revealing who
he thought was better, Ronaldo or Messi.
Wenger said: 'I would go for
nobody because it’s not my problem at the moment. I have a much bigger
problem - to prepare my team for Sunday. It’s a debate that is
always very difficult.
'First of all, I’m
against that debate because I think we are first a team sport. As a manager I
always feel responsible to encourage the collective effort rather than singling
people out
'I think the modern world is
too much about individuals and we as managers are more worried about the
collective.
'I'm not too much of a fan.
I'm against the Ballon d'Or. I'm against all these things. I've seen careers
destroyed because the players are too much obsessed to get individual rewards.
'I feel sometimes it
encourages selfishness and people inside the game to go too much for their own
sake when some partners are in a better position.
