The IPTL series is an innovative concept in its second year, with substitutions and timeouts. While enjoyable, Murray was quick to stress that not much should be read into the results. The end-of-season exhibition series coincides with Murray’s training block in the Middle East and the world No 2 looked in decent shape on Tuesday, playing both doubles and singles in Singapore’s 27-24 victory. This was the first of two appearances for Murray in this year’s IPTL with another match scheduled on Wednesday against the Indian Aces
Coach Amelie Mauresmo and Great Britain Davis
Cup captain Leon Smith were in the
stands to watch Murray pick up some handy match practice, culminating in a 6-4
win against Federer. Murray had this to
say after his win “It was good fun.
Everyone was competitive. You don’t read too much into the matches because some
of the guys haven’t played matches for a while and haven’t been practising as
much. There were some good points, just a little bit inconsistent”
Murray will
return to the UK on Sunday ahead of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year
ceremony in Belfast, at which he will be favourite to pick up the coveted main
award for the second time.
