River Plate Fans Apologise to Messi for 'spitting' on him

The winning the Club world was won by Barcelona but it was without some controversies. Messi was not welcomed by River Plate supporters as he was spat on and the president of the club Rodolfo D’Onofrio expressed his regret and repulsion at the incident at Narita airport in which several Barcelona players were insulted by Argentinians.

He said "There’s always one idiot, to use a more polite way of describing these people. I’ve only just read that Messi was given problems by a fan at the airport who had drank more than he should have... and did something stupid against Messi.

Messi is the best player in Argentine football, he’s a gentleman, when he scored, he raised his hand in forgiveness, he congratulated the club for getting where we got, he told me all about his childhood in which he explained he was at the point of joining River... and he feels River.

So we applaud him and Mascherano. You have to know how to lose and recognize when the other side were the better team", D’Onofrio told Fox Sports Show.

The altercation further escalated with Messi allegedly punching the fan, before teammate Luis Suarez and manager Luis Enrique stepped in to calm things down. The actions of the fans have recently been condoned by River Plate’s officials.

The club just yesterday came out with a statement in relation to the mishap to apologise to Messi and other players of Barcelona and to commend them on winning the 2015 FIFA World Club Cup.

The President of River Plate, Rodolfo D’Onofrio also spoke about he possibility of signing back Mascherano in the nearest future.
