2015, what a year in the
NPFL, even though it was not without some controversies arising from several clubs
owing their teams several months salary, another challenge that faced the NPFL
during the year was administration which the LMC (League Management Company)
handled to an extent very well.
Let's leave that aside for
another day, let's take a look at the year on a brighter side, we bring to you
the top XI players of the year.
GK - FEMI THOMAS (ENYIMBA FC)
He was a worthy replacement
for Chijoke Ejiogu and confirmed Chijoke, Mose Ocheje and Joshua Enaholo to the
bench for the entire season.
He helped Peoples Elephant
win a record seventh Glo Premier League with superlative performances on their
course to win the league.
RB - KALU ORJI (RANGERS)
The right-back was a key performer
for a Rangers side that had a disappointing outing this season. His impressive
showing for the Flying Antelopes earned him an invitation to the Super Eagles.
CB - CHINEDU UDOJI (ENYIMBA
FC)
Captain of the Enyimba side
that won a record seventh Glo Premier League title.
Udoji, during the course of
the season also played as a holding midfielder showing his versatility and got
four goals to help his club to the title.
CB - AUSTINE OBAROAKPO (ABIA
WARRIORS)
Often described by many as
the best defender in the Glo Premier League, he was later rewarded with a
starting role in the Super Eagles versus Swaziland World Cup qualifier in Port
Harcourt and he acquitted himself well, he has also been included in the list
of players to camp for the 4th African Nations Cup in Rwanda.
LB - CHIMA AKAS (SHARKS)
Vice captain of the
Home-based Super Eagles. Although, he couldn't help Sharks of Port Harcourt stay
up in the League, yet he distinguished himself.
DMF - PAUL ONOBI (SUNSHINE
STARS)
The Sunshine Stars
vice-captain is one of the top performers in the Glo Premier League this season.
He helped his team to a place in the continent next season.
DMF - BATURE YARO (NASARAWA
UNITED)
The talented midfielder
played a pivotal role as his side surprisingly secured third place on the log.
Bature Yaro scored the opening goal on the day the Lafia-based outfit ended
Kano Pillars' 12 years unbeaten home streak with a 2-1 defeat.
AMF - CHISOM CHIKATARA (ABIA
WARRIORS)
The Kolanut Boy as he is
often called by the home fans, is one of the few new faces that made a mark in
the 2014/2015 season.
LWF - EZEKIEL BASSEY (ENYIMBA
FC)
The pace winger will be one
of the backbone Enyimba will be relying on in the CAF champions league. He was
very resourceful for the entirety of the club's title success.
RWF - TUNDE ADENIJI (
FORWARD) SUNSHINE STARS
Adeniji was top of the goal
scoring chat for months before been overtook by eventual winner Gbolahan Salami.
His impressive goals haul were not enough to help Sunshine Stars win the title
or even book a place on the continent.
CF - GBOLAHAN SALAMI (WARRI
WOLVES)
The man needs not much
introduction, the new goal king in the Glo Premier League.
Gbolahan Salami scored 17
goals to help Warri Wolves secure second place and a berth in the CAF Champions
League and to me he's been my NPFL player of the year, as he also replicates
such form whenever he represents Nigeria. He's the captain of the home based
Super Eagles.
Hopefully these players
remain in the league by the kick off of the new season.
