Today I have decided give you some of the series you should look forward to in 2016, no matter what direction your tastes happen to run
1.
Angie
Tribeca
Angie Tribeca is a new TBS’s comedy
series created by Nancy and Steve Carell and the show is about a
group of eccentric police officers in Los Angeles. It of releasing episodes
weekly, TBS are going to run the entire first season in a 25 hour long marathon
beginning on Jan 17. TBS has such confidence in this show that it has already
green lit and filmed a second season, which will be aired traditionally
beginning on January 25.
2.
Legends
Of Tomorrow
Legends of Tomorrow, unlike Arrow or The Flash, is a readymade
ensemble piece that puts together a bunch of superheroes that maybe aren’t
strong enough to carry their own series in an effort to save the world through
the power of time travel. At its heart is the character of Rip Hunter, who was basically created to explain all of the
inconsistencies in the DC universe by zipping through time and space. Basically
he’s The Doctor, played (interestingly enough) by Doctor Who alum Arthur Darvill. While the
trailer isn’t selling the show as much as it probably could, it’s such an
interesting storyline that it seems unfair not to at least give it a chance to
see where it’s going.
3.
Love
If there’s one thing that you can say about Netflix, it’s that they have a
pretty stellar record of producing high quality original programming and that
one of the reasons why we are happy they would be launching in Nigeria. Love is
a fairly simple comedy about a pair of lovelorn individuals from Los Angeles
who have sort of a bizarre meet-cute (she can’t pay for her coffee at 7-Eleven
because she left her wallet at a cult meeting), and things take off from there.
It stars Gillian Jacobs and Paul Rust, and has Judd Apatow’s name on the tin, so while nothing in life in certain,
this is probably going to be a pretty funny show. It’s easy to be confident in
their latest comedic offering, especially since they’ve already renewed it for
a second season.
4. Luke Cage
When Marvel announced that they would be creating a series of one-off programs
on Netflix for some of their lesser known superheroes, fans were excited, but
were careful not to get their hopes up. No one expected what a massive success
Daredevil and, more recently, Jessica Jones would become. This is a story of an
ex-con with super-strength and unbreakable skin who fights crime in New York
City, just like his fellow Marvel Defenders, Daredevil and Jessica Jones.
Cage played by Mike Colter has had
the benefit of appearing on several episodes of Jessica Jones, so audiences
have the opportunity to become familiar with the character before his show even
begins. From the looks of things, Marvel will have another popular series to
add to their Netflix hit list.
5.
Billions
Billions is the story of a major
showdown between a super rich hedge fund billionaire and a zealous New York
City attorney. Righteous battles against the financial elite and all of their
shady practices are in vogue right now, what with The Big Short getting some
serious Oscar buzz. What really pushes this show into must watch territory is
the cast, Damien Lewis (Homeland) and
Paul Giamatti (professional grump)
square off against each other?
6.
Baskets
This show has been in the works for several years, and it seems like it’s
finally about to actually see daylight. Baskets
is about a man who becomes a rodeo clown after failing out of French clown
school and is played by co-creator Zach
Galifianakis. Baskets is co-created by Louis
C.K.
7.
Vinyl
Vinyl explores the sex and drugs
infused world of the music industry in 1970s New York. It stars Bobby Cannavale in the lead role of Richie Finestra, a record label
president, and also features Olivia
Wilde, Juno Temple, and Ray Romano.
8.
The
Path
The Path is a very curious piece of work. For one. It also happens to star Aaron Paul, in his first major
television role since Breaking Bad
went off the air. He plays a recent convert to a controversial faith-based
movement which is headed by a charismatic leader played by Hugh Dancy. Fresh off his well-received role on Hannibal, Hugh
Dancy has proven his willingness and ability to take on darker material, so it
will be exciting to see what he does with this.
9. Preacher
Preacher is another popular
graphic novel with supernatural elements that takes place in the American
South. This is the story of a preacher with special powers, and his bizarre yet
awesome friendship with an Irish vampire. Preacher stars Dominic Cooper, who has never done a bad acting job ever, and
brings together Misfits alums Ruth Negga
and Joe Gilgun, which only makes it
even more awesome.
10. The Night Manager
The Night Manager is a miniseries based on the novel by John le Carre, and has been co-produced by AMC, BBC One and The Ink
Factory, airing in April 2016. With an engaging storyline of espionage and the secret arms industry, The
Night Manager looks to combine high quality performances and high octane
excitement. It revolves around a former British soldier who is recruited to
secretly infiltrate the inner circle of an arms dealer. To do so, he must
become a criminal. Also, did I mention that it will have Tom Hiddleston and Hugh
Laurie in it? Well I guess I just did.
