Coach of Ana Ivanovic and Andy Murray's father-in-law, Nigel Sears, collapsed in the stands
during the Serb's Australian Open third-round match with American Madison Keys, causing play to be
suspended at Rod Laver Arena.
Ivanovic was leading 6-4 1-0 at the time, but looked very concerned before
the players were taken off court and Sears was stretchered away. The match was
suspended for 50 minutes while Sears was taken to hospital, where it is
understood he was seeing a cardiologist. When play resumed, Ivanovic went on to
lose 6-4 4-6 4-6 to the 15th seed.
Jamie Murray later revealed that
Sears was undergoing tests but
was conscious, talking and sitting up, while Andy Murray dashed to the hospital
after beating Sousa in four sets. Sears' daughter Kim, Murray's wife, has remained in the UK during
the tournament as she is expecting the birth of her first child, which is
due in February. This is Sears' second spell working with Ivanovic after
he was reappointed as her coach in July last year.
