Australian Open Update: Kerber Shocks Williams, Djokovic Defeats Murray For Record sixth Australian Open

Angelique Kerber against all odds defeated Serena Williams on the Australian open final, she said it feels like a second coming on her career after winning her first grand slam title at the Australian open. The 28 years old German, born in Bremen to polish parents, shocked world no 1 Serena William 6-4,3-6,6-4.
After pulling away since turning pro in 2003, Kerber had a breakthrough year in 2015, when she won four tournaments, more than doubling her career total to seven. She had never gone beyond the semis at a major before but with a grand slam title now next to her name, she said it felt like a new phase of her career had begun. Kerber is the fourth player to conquer Williams in 26 grand slam final, joining the American’s older sister Venus, Russian Maria Sloarapova and Australian Samantha Stosur.


Novak Djokovic bagged his sixth Australian open title equalling Roy Emerson’s record, once more beating Andy Murray in the 1stgrand slam of the year. The Serbian was at his nothless best under the lights at rod laver arena, defeating below par Murray in the baseline duels and closing out the match in two hours and 53 minutes Murray succumbed to his fifthloss in five Australian open finals, and fourth against the Serbian world no 1. The world number two slapped to a 22nd loss in 31 meetings with Djokovic. Djokovic won 6-1,7-5,7-6(7-3) for his sixth Australian open title.
