Members of the Lagos State, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Editorial
and Publicity Community Development Service (CDS) group earlier this year
decided to partner with Stand To End Rape (STER Initiative) and the Domestic
and Sex Violence Response Team (DSVRT) to embark on a domestic and sexual violence
project titled “CORPS MEMBERS SENSITIZATION AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND RAPE”.
This is with the aim of adding value and making impact in the community as a
CDS group.
The project
which begun on the 15th of February is in 3 phases, the first phase
which is ongoing, is the Online Awareness, in which the CDS group has been
posting pictures, articles and short storieson social media with the trends
#ShunDomesticViolence #StandToEndRape #LetsEndRape @ekocorpersdiary, this is to
capture the online populace and inform them about rape, domestic violence and possibility
of hope for survivors.
The second phase which is the radio awareness would run
for two Thursdays Feb18th and Feb 25th, where corps members of the Editorial CDS
would have the Executive Director of STER Initiative -Miss
Oluwaseun Ayodeji Osowobi and DSVRT Coordinator – Mrs. Lola Vivour as guests on
the Eko Corpers Diary radio shows on UnilagFm at 2:05pm and EkoFm at 6:30pm,
shed more light on the social issue, but the first Thursday Feb 18th
would be after a symposium with corps members at the NYSC secretariat, Surulere.
The third phase which marks the educative part of this project would have corps
members of the Editorial CDS and her partners – STER Initiative and DSVRT have
a WALK AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND RAPE and end the day with a visit to 2
government schools in Alimosho LGA, this LGA was picked according to
unconfirmed reports to have the highest rate of domestic violence and rape.
Corps members of the Editorial CDS are so excited with this project as it
represents their Corpers’ Social Responsibility. This project by the editorial
of Lagos NYSC is speared headed by Olagoke Ajibola. The project would however
come to a wrap on the 27th of Feb, by the end of this project corps
members hope to have raised a tangible amount of awareness.
