Facts You Never Knew About The Super Bowl

The Super Bowl is one of America’s most popular sporting events and it is actually the most watched sports event by far in the United States and on Sunday night the world witnessed another exciting and thrilling Super Bowl.

The Sunday night Super Bowl had a lot of excitement in it especially with the performances from the likes of Beyonce and Coldplay coupled with the trailer of some soon to be released movie and with that been said we are going to take a look at some of the fact you didn’t know about the Super Bowl.

1.      The First Super Bowl
The first Super Bowl was actually held only 49 years ago in 1967! The Green Bay Packers and Kansas City played, and Green Bay won!

2.      Halftime Shows
The Super Bowl began in 1967, but they only introduced the half time show in 1991 in an effort to boost ratings and viewings. This year’s halftime show featured Beyonce and Coldplay

3.      Most Super Bowl Appearances
There are four teams tied for most Super Bowl appearances and they are the Denver Broncos, the New England Patriots, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Dallas Cowboys. Out of those teams, the Steelers have had the most wins, with 6 wins out of 8 games.


4.      Ticket Prices
When the first Super Bowl started, the highest priced ticket was $12. Last year, the highest priced ticket was $17,800.

5.      Television Views
Despite the fact that the Super Bowl is the most watched sporting event on U.S. television, it doesn’t even break into the top 20 sporting events watched internationally, unbelievable right?

6.      Starter Wins
Joe Montana and Joe Namath are the only two quarterbacks in the U.S. to have won both a college football national championship as well as a Super Bowl as starters.

7.      Peyton Manning
Aside from being the most beloved quarterback in the NFL Peyton Manning has also won the most MVP award victories in the history of the NFL with five different awards.

8.      Tony Dungy
In 2007 Tony Dungy became the first ever African-American coach to win a Super Bowl

9.      The Lombardi Trophy
The Lombardi Trophy is the trophy given to the team that wins the Super Bowl. It is worth $25,000, and it’s named after Vince Lombardi, who was the coach of the Green Bay Packers when they won the first Super Bowl ever.

10.  High Food Consumption
A lot of people actually attend Super Bowl parties just for the snacks, and don’t even know anything about football and that is because Super Bowl is the second-highest day of the year for food consumption in the U.S. The first-highest day is Thanksgiving.
