Matteo Darmian Facing Lengthy Lay-Off After Dislocating His Shoulder

Manchester United full-back Matteo Darmian is facing a spell on the sidelines after dislocating his left shoulder during Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Sunderland. The Italy international collided with Wahbi Khazri by the right-hand corner and landed awkwardly in the 37th minute and had to be replaced by Donald Love, who came on to make his debut.

Darmian joins fellow specialist full-backs Luke Shaw and Guillermo Varela on the sidelines, while Antonio Valencia, Marcos Rojo, Ashley Young and Phil Jones, who can all play at full-back, are also currently injured.

News of the severity of Darmian's injury capped a bad day for United, who failed to close the gap on the sides occupying the Champions League top-four qualification spots. Val Gaal said “Unfortunately, Darmian is a dislocation and he's out for several weeks we don't have any more full-backs”.
