Rand Paul Drops Out of Presidential Race

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul has officially suspended his campaign for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination two days after falling to rivals Ted Cruz and Donald Trump in the Iowa caucuses.

The announcement comes after Paul finished in fifth place in the caucuses behind Ben Carson and Marco Rubio with only 4.5 percent of the vote. In a statement to CNN Paul said “It's been an incredible honor to run a principled campaign for the White House. Today, I will end where I began, ready and willing to fight for the cause of liberty”. Pauls has said that he will now focus on his bid for a second term in the Senate.

The 53years old is the latest casualty of the caucuses, with Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee pulling out after garnering the support of less than 2 percent of Iowa voters.  Democrat Martin O'Malley also ended his campaign this week as the former Maryland governor got less than 1 percent of support in the contest that was ultimately won by Hillary Clinton.
