Amir Khan Ready To Challenge Saul Canelo Alvarez

Amir Khan accepts he will face a monster when fighting Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez but is confident he can summon his underdog spirit and prove his class on the global stage. Khan will fight the powerful Mexican for the WBC middleweight title in Las Vegas on May 7 at a catchweight 155lbs rather than the 147lbs welterweight limit which the Briton has been competing for the past two years.

Alvarez has only lost once in his career and represents a substantial challenge to Khan, who goes into the contest on the back of five straight wins and determined to prove he can compete with the sport's elite. Khan said “I've been let down so many times in terms of having the biggest fights - there are a lot of big names I wanted to fight and this is my time to shine. I want to show the world how good I am. I'm up against a monster, in a way, someone who is a great fighter and a dangerous fighter. People have asked me why I want to move up to middleweight to fight this great fighter, this great puncher, and I've said I believe I can win this fight. I believe I can take his power, take his speed, and that I have the moves to win this fight”.

Khan has only lost three professional fights but accepts he goes into this one as the clear underdog and is ready to use that to upset the odds saying “When I was 17 I went to the Olympic Games as an underdog and nobody expected me to do anything at the Olympics. I was a young boy who was supposed to get beat by these men and people really thought I shouldn't have gone there. It seems like a lot of people are saying for this fight that Alvarez is 'going to walk right through him' but I promise you guys you're going to see a different Amir Khan in this fight”
