Arsenal Close In On Midfielder Granit Xhaka

Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka, although it is understood that a deal has not been formally completed. This is despite photos appearing to show Xhaka wearing an Arsenal shirt at the club's London Colney training base, which have been circulating on social media over the past 24 hours.

Sources understand a deal to take the 23years old to the Emirates Stadium will be completed over the next few days. Sky in Germany reported in March that Xhaka's father had met with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.  Xhaka is contracted to Monchengladbach until 2019 after joining them four years ago from Basel.

In February, Xhaka, once dubbed the young Bastian Schweinsteiger by former Bayern Munich head coach Ottmar Hitzfeld. He said “I think everybody has a dream, everybody has a childhood dream and that's my childhood dream. If my dream comes true, it remains to be seen. At the moment I cannot say how realistic it is”.
