Brendan Rodgers Appointed Manager Of Celtic

Brendan Rodgers has been appointed the new manager of Celtic. The 43-year-old has been holding negotiations with the Hoops this week and has agreed take over from Ronny Deila, who left the club after the 7-0 defeat of Motherwell on Sunday.


Deila delivered two league titles in as many years as Celtic secured a fifth successive Scottish Premiership success this season. Rodgers has been looking for a new club since parting company with Liverpool in October after almost three-and-a-half years at Anfield. The former Swansea boss led the Reds to seventh in Premier League his first season, one place higher than the previous campaign, and the following year Rodgers' side came within two points of being English champions for the first time in 24 years.

Liverpool were lauded for their attacking play as they scored 101 league, while Rodgers was named LMA Manager of the Year. The team dropped to sixth position the following season, and after a poor start to the 2015/16 campaign Liverpool decided to replace Rodgers with former Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp.


Rodgers is Celtic's third manager from the north of Ireland in 16 years, with Martin O'Neill and Neil Lennon enjoying glittering spells while in charge of the club. In his five years at Celtic Park, O'Neill won three league titles, three Scottish Cups and one League Cup and guided the team to the UEFA Cup final in 2003 when they lost 3-2 to Porto after extra-time. Lennon won three league titles As well as two Scottish Cups in his four years in charge, while leading his side to the last 16 of the Champions League, beating Barcelona 2-1 along the way before losing to Juventus.
