Brendan Rodgers The No 1 Target For Celtic

Sources at Sky Sports understands former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is holding further talks with Celtic over their managerial vacancy. It is believed the Northern Irishman, who discussed the position with the club's hierarchy last week, is now the No 1 candidate for the post.


It is understood former Watford, Cardiff and Wigan boss Malky Mackay has also been interviewed for the position following Ronny Deila's departure. However, sources close to Sky Sports say Paul Lambert, who quit as Blackburn boss last month, and former Everton and Manchester United manager David Moyes, a long-time front-runner for the position, have not spoken to the club over the vacancy.


Deila, who bowed out with a resounding 7-0 victory over Motherwell on Sunday, announced earlier this month he was standing down after two seasons despite leading the Hoops to their fifth successive title. Pressure mounted on the Norwegian following a poor showing in Europe where the club failed to win any of their six Europa League group matches.


A Scottish League Cup semi-final defeat to Ross County saw his position come under scrutiny before a Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Championship side Rangers cast further doubt over his future with the champions.
