Jose Enrique's career at Liverpool is officially over after he was released early from his contract. The Spanish left back was due to leave Anfield this summer but given that he had not been involved in the first team under Jurgen Klopp in recent months, the decision has been taken to allow Enrique to start plotting for the future now.
The last two
seasons have been a write off for Enrique, who made just nine appearances in
2014-15 for Brendan Rodgers and was
frozen out of the first-team squad last summer He had an
opportunity to join West Brom last
September but turned it down. Enrique, who cost Liverpool £5million in August 2011 when he arrived
from Newcastle, was given a clean
slate by Klopp but he only played in three games.
He played his last game for the Reds on January 30, before finding himself back on the periphery once more and there was never any chance of Liverpool renewing his £72,000 per week contract. Now faced with the prospect of finding a new club, Enrique leaves Anfield having made 99 appearances, scoring two goals and providing 10 assists.
