UPDATE ON THE STRIKE

Many Nigerians are in dilemma over the proposed strike by the NLC/TUC concerning the new pump price of N145 a liter. Here are some of the things current going on around the country

Jos
It has been reported that some residence of Jos stoned some members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) who were trying to mobilize people to join the strike. On Tuesday, May 17, 2016, member of NLC/TUC were stoned at the Terminus Market in Jos, Plateau State while trying to mobilize traders for a strike scheduled to hold today, May 18.

Some youths in the area reportedly gathered around the union members while they were speaking and threw stones at them while chanting in Hausa, ‘Karya kukeyi,’ meaning, ‘You are telling lies’.

Lagos
We hear that workers who have joined the NLC strike this morning took to Ikorodu road in Lagos, to block the road as they carried different placards which state the new increase in petrol price will not be accepted. A source however said it has caused major traffic and police officers are on their way to the scene.

Meanwhile The Lagos State Government under the leadership of Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode took to his official twitter handle to say that the government of Lagos would uphold the Rule of Law to ensure Lagosians go about their normal businesses in any part of the State without fear or molestation today.
Still in Lagos we also went to some banking hall and also some filling station and those that we spoke told us that they are open for business, that they haven’t received any memo concerning any strike. One of the filling station attendant we spoke with said the most filling station would not go on strike because the union they serve under has said there is no strike action until the federal government says so.

The market people were not also left out, business is going as usual at Iddo market and also Ikotun market with most of them saying the strike won’t pay them instead they would lose more money which is something they can’t afford to do bearing in mind how much fuel now sell.
