Protesting ministry of finance workers call for the sack of finance minister over unpaid allowances

Workers at the Federal Ministry of Finance today called for the sack of Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, as they staged a protest at the federal secretariat Abuja, over the non payment of their allowances and entitlements. The workers shut down their secretariat in protest.

They complained they have not been paid their overtime and training allowances since Adeosun assumed office in November last year. They prevented cars (including the minister herself) from coming in and going out of the secretariat. They say they will not end their protest until their demands are met.

The government however said the allowances the workers were demanding was unknown to law.
Some of the placards read: “Adeosun: Pay us our N1.2 billion special overtime allowance”, “PMB sack Mrs. Adeosun now. She is insensitive to workers’ welfare,” “Adeosun: you are destroying finance ministry”, You must go”, “You are incompetent “, “You are killing PMB’s change agenda.”
When the minister waited for some time without the workers agreeing to free the entrance, her driver chauffeured her away.
