Scott has been making quite a name for himself in recent years, and has huge movies like Suicide Squad and Fast 8 on the way. There’s no word on who Eastwood will play as of right now, but Deadline mentions that he will have a key role. More details will no doubt be revealed soon enough, especially as production begins at the end of the year. Steven S. DeKnight is taking over directing duties from Guillermo del Toro from a script by Derek Connolly.

Released in 2013, Pacific Rim divided critics, but earned an admirable $411 million worldwide, Universal and Legendary are clearly hoping that they can turn the property into a viable franchise by giving this sequel the green light, and if nothing else, the cast is shaping up to be pretty great so far.
