Victoria Cox To Play Lead Role In Savage Youth

With production already underway in Chicago, the upcoming independent drama film Savage Youth has found its narrative voice with the casting of Grace Victoria Cox in the lead role. Written and directed by Michael Curtis Johnson, the story is told from the perspective of the young Elena.

It is an horrific tale, inspired by the very real and heinous crime committed by four white teenagers when they murdered two black teenagers in their home. The killings occurred while the father of one of teens was downstairs, and the murderers lived with the bodies of the deceased for four days, until they were apprehended and brought to justice. The character of Elena is said to begin the story as something of an innocent, who inadvertently becomes drawn into the wrong crowd.

With the subject of race being at the forefront of discussion in America, and around the world, the central premise of Savage Youth is both timely and disturbing. It also speaks to the issues regarding mental health provision, and the treatment and attitudes of young people in modern society – all of which are hot-button topics in this election year.
