Andy Murray Wins In Straight Sets

Andy Murray continued his routine progression at the US Open after beating Marcel Granollers in the second round. The British No 1 wasn't troubled by his Spanish opponent and sealed a 6-4 6-1 6-4 win on Thursday to book a third-round spot.

Granollers initially offered some resistance at the conclusion of the opening set - Murray's early break gave him a significant advantage but he wasn't allowed to stroll over the finishing line. A 5-2 lead was cut short when Granollers surprisingly broke his serve to remain in the set - Murray dug deep to immediately break back, requiring seven set points.

The second set was a far easier affair as Granollers began to wilt - the world No 2 needed less than 35 minutes, twice breaking his opponent's serve and cruising through his own service games.
The Spaniard caught a second wind in the third set and, for long periods, was good value for parity but Murray converted the second of two break point chances to move 5-4 ahead. He served out his second consecutive straight sets win of the US Open.
