George Lwandamina, the head coach Zambia, believes
that his team's performance against Kenya in Saturday's 2017 Africa
Cup of Nations qualifier will determine how they will fare against the Super
Eagles in the 2018 World Cup qualifier in October.
Zambia will
host Kenya in an inconsequential AFCON qualifier this weekend. He said “It's a serious match because we need to
establish where to start the World Cup qualifiers from. And we need to build a
team to do that, so unless people are saying we should not play since it's a
formality.”
The former
Zambian skipper lamented the lack of hunger displayed by some members of the AFCON
2012 winning side ahead of the crucial World Cup qualifiers. He said “There are no automatic places in the
national team, and that's the problem we have with players after winning the
Africa Cup of Nations, that competitiveness has been lost, so it's a delicate
one.”
