The National
Association of Nigerian Footballers (NANF) have announced that peace has
returned to the body after years of bickering. This was made known at a media
briefing held on Tuesday, at the National Stadium, Lagos.
Present at
the briefing was the interim president of NANF, Larry Kubeinje, Chairman, Executive Committee, Nigerian Players
Union and former Nigeria international, Clement
Temile, and President General, Nigeria Football and other Sports Supporters
Club, Rafiu Ladipo.
NANF interim
President Kubeinje stated that the recent peace the body is enjoying has
afforded them the opportunity to reorganize and move on to greater things. He said
“As you are aware there has been a series
of crisis in the Nigerian players union, which led to our withdrawal from the
international player's body FIPRO in order to put our house in order. The
situation degenerated to the factionalization of the union, which led to the
erstwhile Secretary General, Austin Popo,
to form a splinter group. We wish to situate with this press conference that
the Nigerian Players Union is one with the name the National Association of
Nigerian Footballers. We also wish to commend the efforts of other
ex-footballers who have worked tirelessly under the auspices of the concerned
group to bring about the peace we now have and enjoy.”
