MLS Fines Drogba

Didier Drogba has been fined by the MLS after refusing to play for Montreal Impact in their match against Toronto FC last Sunday. The former Chelsea striker, who has scored 10 goals for Montreal this season, demanded to be left out of the match-day squad after being told he would not be in the starting line-up.

Montreal president Joey Saputo insisted on Tuesday the relationship between the club and Drogba had been patched up, but the 38-year-old has not escaped punishment from the MLS. The MLS said on Friday that the fine, which was not disclosed, was consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Drogba is in his second season with Montreal after joining the club in 2015 following his release from Chelsea. Montreal, who have already assured a berth in the end of season play-offs, play New England Revolution on Sunday in their final match of the league campaign.
