Abubakar Bukola Saraki Ilorin FC on Wednesday picked the
last promotion ticket for the 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League
season after a comprehensive 4-1 thrashing of Gateway United of Abeokuta in a
replayed match of the Nigeria National League Division B2 game.
The game was
botched last week following Gateway
United’s refusal to honour the game, citing lack of adequate security. The
Organizing and Disciplinary Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation
ordered for the match to be replayed following a protest by the Abeokuta side
who did not take kindly the walkover conducted by the match officials during
the first game.
ABS netted
the first goal in the first half through Ajibola
Otegbeye and doubled their lead in the 70th minute. Ibrahim Abdullahi made it three for ABS in the 79th minute with Bala Yahuza reducing the deficit in the
80th minute for the visitors while Mohammed Mohammed completed the victory in the 90th minute.
ABS top the
group with twenty four points ahead of Bayelsa United, who finished the
campaign with 23 points.
