Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi forward, Godwin Obaje, is going into the
history books as the second player to receive the Rashidi Yekini NPFL Top
Scorer Award which comes in a beautiful Golden Boot, for his
outstanding 18 goals record in the 2015/16 season
Obaje emerged
as the top scorer in the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL)
season with 18 goals, succeeding GbolahanSalami
who won the award in the previous season. Obaje will be presented
with the award sponsored by Rashidi Yekini Foundation this
Saturday November 26 2016, at the 4th edition of the Gold
Cup Pre-season Tournament billed to take place in Ijebu Ode.
According to
the facilitator and founder of the foundation, Barrister Jibril Mohammed, a giant Golden
Boot plaque and a prize money of 100,000 naira will be presented to Obaje.
Mohammed was also pleased with the organizers of the Gold Cup tourney for their
support.
He said “Rashidi Yekini Highest Goalscorer
Award has come to stay because this is the second edition of the annual award
named after one of the most prolific goal scorers Africa ever produced in
Nigeria, the Late Rashidi Yekini, who died on the 4th of May 2012. We
want to thank the organisers of the Gold Cup competition who has formed a
synergy with us, to make this year’s edition a reality. After deliberating on
so many factors, we deemed it fit to hold the presentation over there in Ijebu
Ode, Ogun State because of Wikki Tourists involvement in the tournament and
they are playing Lobi Stars
of Markurdi. I want to inform you that this year's NPFL Highest Goal
Scorer Award would be presented to Godwin Obaje at the Dipo Dina Stadium Ijebu
Ode this Saturday. We are presenting the award after the first half of the
game between Wikki Tourist and Lobi Stars at the Gold Cup tournament.”
