2016 AFCON Beach Soccer: Nigeria’s Ogbonna Wins MVP Award

 
Super Sand Eagles player, Emeka Ogbonna was voted the Most Valuable Player at the 2016 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations which ended on Sunday at the Eko Atlantic Beach, Lagos Despite finishing as runners-up with the Sand Eagles who lost 8-4 to Senegal in Sunday's final, Ogbonna was picked ahead of other players when individual awards were given out.

Emeka finished the tournament with six goals and featured in all the matches the Sand Eagles played. He bagged a brace in the Sand Eagles' 3-2 opening game win against Egypt. In the decisive 4-3 win against Ghana, Emeka scored two goals to help the Sand Eagles qualify for the semi-finals and in the 6-1 semi-final win against Morocco and the 8-4 final defeat to Senegal, Emeka scored a goal in each game.

In other individual awards that were given out, Senegal's star man, Babacar Fall won the highest goals scorer award with 11 goals. The best goalkeeper award went to Senegal's Al Seyni Ndiaye.
