The
Super Sand Eagles overwhelmed Morocco 6-1 in the second semifinals of the Beach
Soccer Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday. The win means the Sand
Eagles have qualified as one of the two Africa's representatives along with
Senegal at the 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Bahamas.They will face
Senegal in the final of the CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations on
Sunday.
The
Moroccans had the early chances in the first period on three occasions, but
were thwarted by good goalkeeping from Godwin
Ayalogu. After surviving the early attacks from the Moroccans, Emmanuel Ohwoferia put the Sand Eagles
in front in the ninth minute. Every efforts by
the Moroccans to level up before the end of the first period proved futile as
the Sand Eagles held on to their 1-0 lead.
In
the second period Morocco got back into the game on four minutes through Anas El Hadaoui whose penalty went
through the legs of Ayalogu. Two minutes later Azeez Abu made it 2-1 for the Sand Eagles and in the ninth minute, Suleiman Mohammed extended the Sand
Eagles' lead to 3-1. The Sand Eagles went on
rampage in the final period and added three more goals through Ogbonna Emeka, Ohwoferia and Abu to end
the game 6-1.
The Sand Eagles have now qualified for their fifth final and also their fifth World Cup.
